The Columbia AS Coin-Op

The AS coin-op was introduced in 1897 and was the first commercially produced spring driven coin operated phonograph. Edison's first such machine came out over a year later. This earliest "jukebox" held only one record. Dropping a nickel in the slot unlocks a crank which, when turned, then releases the reproducer and starts the motor. The machine self-resets at the end of the song.
