The "Picnic" Mikky Phone

The Mikky Phone was produced in Japan in the 1930's and was one of the many portable phonographs marketed to people who wanted to take music with them. This picture, though blurry, shows the Mikky Phone's 1/2 inch thick horn (looks like a cross section) attached to the reproducer and folded into position to play. The crank, horn and reproducer all come apart to store in the metal case (open in two halves here). The three arms that hold the record (much larger than the player itself) collapse and rotate inwards so the case can be snapped shut. Attached to the top of the case is a leather strap so the machine can be taken on the road!
